I didn’t have listing it, but it looks me like the best Podcast ever! :D
I follow Brett also on Twitter and he has good ideas.

Can’t wait till I have time!

Great podcast. I’m a big fan of Brett’s work.

There were a couple of blogging/CMS apps mentioned that accepted markdown, but I couldn’t catch the names and I don’t see links in the list.

    Could you provide these?

    Thanks.

Maybe you should give the writing app MyTexts Pro for iPad (99 ct in iTunes – ) a try. Next to many things like dropbox, email or markdown and TextExpander I like the keyboard with the extras.

    Another great podcast….

This is the only audio podcast I listen to and love it !

Keep up the great work David & Katie.

Thank you for bringing over Brett again. You both are putting together great episodes. I am writing because, although I love the show, there a few instances in which there is a comment that throws me off. Today, for instance, when you guys were talking about college, and whether it makes a difference in what you do for a living, Katie said that even though you might do well without a college education in some areas, if your want to do “what we do”–meaning being an attorney–you need “more background.” I wonder how does she quantify “background” to make such a statement. Does that imply that a talented high school teacher, or a talented computer programmer, or a talented font designer, for that matter, need less “background” that an attorney? This is surprising in the context of discussing your guests “background.” I am sure that your guest understands levels of complexity and has knowledge equivalent to that of any young attorney. I do have a degree in engineering, a masters in humanities and a PhD, and so many years of study have taught me to be careful with blanket statements such as the amount of “background” needed to practice a particular profession. Probably Brett, which is a great guy (judging for his blog and the way in which he took the comment), didn’t say a thing. But an apology would not hurt.

Jose, I am an Aussie and blunt at times when revved up…G’s Mate with all your PHD, Masters and what have you, have you forgotten about common courtesy! “But an apology would not hurt.”

The fact of the matter is you need to remember the following…You have Two Eyes, Two Ears and one Mouth.
Try using them in the same proportion!
I think possibly you will get on better with people.

You need to re listen to the show.
And get things into perspective because Katie’s comment was appropriate, and very clearly NOT demeaning in any way shape or form. Not going to let you get away with being so rude on this one Mate.

Ps Really enjoyable show guys…got heaps out of it.

    2. Katie

Jose- I apologize for any offense to you or anyone else. None was intended. My comment was simply ment that for some careers, such as mine, college or graduate degree is a prerequisite to obtaining a license. That’s all. If it came out sounding differently it was just a jumbled poor choice of words.

A suggestion for improvement. Eliminate the gratuitous ‘why doesn’t Apple do that – maybe it’s because they just want your money’ type comments. Comments like these only take away from your usually outstanding podcast.
If you have real suggestions offer that as feedback directly to Apple. Maybe it’s because I personally know a number of Apple employees, and how hard they work – but they do work very hard at making products, and services, that ‘wow’ you – and evidently they succeed some of the time, or else you wouldn’t make a podcast with so much emphasis on their products. If there are legitimate criticisms, go ahead. But speculations about ‘why’ and ‘why don’t they…’ are really useless, until they are made to the people that can use them.

    Just my 2¢

Great show! Thanks Brett for sharing your insights and app recommendations. I’m particularly looking forward to checking out Found and have added myself to the waiting list.

One mention that got missed in the show notes is Visits (the Google Analytics app). I purchased it earlier today and am enjoying it so far. It’s available over on theMac App Store for $4.99

Anyone know what the “.in” domain ending means for Pinboard? Anything to be concerned about when considering a Pinboard account?

  9. Robert

Another triumph. Cannot get enough Brett. Thanks for his rec for Apptivate. I use it to launch most apps as it is much faster than Alfred and Launchbar (prefer Alfred).

Superb episode! Re Brett’s mention of Found, I must support Kevin’s recommendation of DEVONsphere Express (http://www.devontechnologies.com/products/devonsphere/devonsphere-express.html and in the App Store). It searches both your hard drive and the web, and makes use of DEVON Technologies’ intelligent searching feature, all very fast and from a very neat and nifty menubar icon. It’ll be interesting to see what Found is like, but this will be hard to beat.

Also, re Brett’s use of Pinboard, St Clair (makers of Default Folder) have an excellent app for remembering and searching bookmarks and history, called HistoryHound (http://www.stclairsoft.com/HistoryHound/index.html). Its very fast, allows you to see the web page before opening it, and sits in your Mac rather than offline.

Is it possible to make a written transcript of the show beside the podcasts?
I listen these podcasts in the train on my way to school, and when I here some interesing I need to write it down or listing it back (which takes a lot of extra time).

When I have a written transcript it will make a lot of productivity for me!

I have tried Devonsphere Express,, and I have to disagree with the above recommendations. I found it made an enormous index, and slowed down my computer a great deal. Perhaps if you have an SSD installed, it would be acceptable, but on my not particularly old MacBook Pro, the performance hit was too high to justify using it. (It also used more than half a gigabyte of physical memory at all times!) I tried several builds before abandoning it – there was some improvement compared with the initial release, but not enough to matter.
