At Macworld 2009, David Sparks and Katie Floyd, two experienced podcasters and close friends, floated the idea of a new Mac podcast and were promptly informed the space was too crowded and they were “crazy.” They accepted that as a challenge and spent several months developing a new show format that became Mac Power Users. The show features focus topics and workflow guests with the goal of helping people use their Macs more productively and become “Power Users.” The show quickly became a success and shot to the top of an already crowded podcasting space. In August of 2011, Mac Power Users joined the 5by5 network opening up a wider audience of designers, developers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and tech-savvy consumers.
Katie Floyd is a litigator in Florida and has been an avid Mac User since the original 128 Macintosh was released in 1984. In addition to her work on Mac Power Users, Katie is a member of the influential Mac Roundtable Podcast featuring a panel of Mac notables. Katie is a frequent speaker and consultant on Apple and technology related topics and has presented sessions for the National Business Institute, Macworld Expo, and the American Bar Association among others. Katie has been a contributor to Macworld Magazine and writes a monthly article for ScreenCastsOnline Monthly Magazine. As her time allows, Katie is available for consulting projects and speaking engagements.
David Sparks is an Orange County, California business attorney and a geek. In addition to Mac Power Users, David is a blogger, and author who writes about finding the best tools, hardware, and workflows for using Apple products to get work done. David also writes for Macworld magazine and speaks about technology. David is also the author of the book Mac at Work and iPad Work published by Wiley Press and the MacSparky Field Guides.
